The Right Place For Housing?

Editor: Just over a decade ago we voted to expand the sewer treatment plant. As could be expected, it was met with opposition from neighbors. Who wants to live downwind from the sewer treatment plant? While our facility is well designed, maintained and operated, it will periodically produce some malodorous scents.

For two years we have seen proposals come before town meeting to develop the land to the north of Middle Road, a location directly downwind of the sewer treatment plant. While the plant has been mentioned, the future plans for the plant have not been described. In a decade we will find ourselves before town meeting to expand the plant by 50 percent. A filtration sand bed is proposed adjacent to Middle Road.

We have to ask ourselves, is this the right location for a housing development?
